Guatemala – Nery Rodas, Vice President of the Congress of Guatemala, reported during ENADE 2024 on the progress of discussions for the possible opening of a Google office in the country. This initiative aims to attract foreign investment, generate jobs, and accelerate the country’s digital transformation.

Rodas explained that he has been in talks with Google for months to explore this possibility, which could be a milestone in Guatemala’s technological development. “We are working to bring Google’s technology and innovation to Guatemala. Opening an office in the country will not only create new job opportunities but also mark a significant step in our efforts to digitalize government and modernize public services,” said Rodas.

As part of these efforts, a team of Google specialists has already visited the country to meet with various ministers and assess technological needs. The collaboration with the tech giant focuses on conducting a comprehensive assessment of Guatemala’s digital environment and proposing solutions based on best practices from other countries.

A Commitment to Digital Development

Nery Rodas highlighted that, along with Google and other strategic partners, they are working to identify key areas where digital solutions can have a positive impact on the lives of Guatemalans. “In the coming weeks, we expect to welcome Google experts again to continue defining a work plan that will enable us to implement these solutions effectively,” he added.

To strengthen these ties and promote Guatemala’s digital transformation agenda, Nery Rodas will participate next week in the Google Public Sector Summit 2024. At this event, which brings together leaders and technology experts from around the world, Rodas will represent the country and continue promoting collaboration with Google and other tech companies.

“My participation in the Summit will be an opportunity to further drive digital transformation in Guatemala and ensure that the initiatives we are developing have the support of the world’s leading experts,” stated Rodas.

With the potential opening of a Google office and ongoing modernization efforts, Guatemala is on track to establish itself as a tech hub in the region, boosting the country’s economic and social development.
